Events: Highlights

Personal Shopper
Foyer of Halls 5.1 / 6.1
Many celebrities would not be trend setters were it not for their personal shoppers. These professional buyers and consultants sift through the brand and fashion jungle systematically and regularly and, using their sound sense of style, put together a preliminary selection of products for their customers during their expeditions. The Personal Shoppers of Tendence Lifestyle 2007 do a similar job with representatives of 5.5 designers in Paris and Atelier Satyendra Pakhalé in Amsterdam having visited exhibitors of the lifestyle event well in advance of the fair. From the range of products seen, each firm of designers has chosen the ideal product mix for an imaginary customer, which they will be showing in two cubes located opposite each other in the foyer of Halls 5.1. and 6.1. From these presentations, trade visitors will be able to see what fully styled consumer worlds look like and gain great inspiration for their own businesses.

Simple Light - HfG + WMF
Work in Progress – an intermediary report
Hall 6.0 C40
"Every problem solved is simple", said Thomas Alva Edison (1847 to 1931), the discoverer of the thermionic effect. Finding simple solutions is also the task of the students of the Simple Light inter-university competition at the Academy for Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung – HfG), Karlsruhe. The initiator and supervisor of the project, Professor Hansjerg Maier-Aichen, describes the task as follows: "For Simple Light, participants conduct research into basic lighting and prepare design solutions that range from plain candles to innovative, high-tech illuminants." Simple Light is held in cooperation with WMF AG, which is internationally renowned for cutlery, knives, kitchen accessories and coffee machines. At present, the German company is extending its activities into the home segment and, in this connection, supports student projects. The 'intermediate report' on the occasion of Tendence Lifestyle presents the winners of the preliminary round, including prototypes of luminaires and lighting objects, advanced ideas on lighting and extended lighting concepts.

Micro-architecture Lounge
Project of Kassel Art Academy
Hall 6.1 A90
People say that a room is to be found in the smallest hut. In line with this sentiment, Kassel Art Academy (Kunsthochschule) presents exclusive lounging in cosy micro-worlds at Tendence Lifestyle. The extraordinary project under the supervision of Oliver Vogt, Professor for Industrial Design, consists of several 'mini-architectural elements' that can be entered and offer room for two to six people. The elements are furnished with seats and products designed by students. New and familiar ideas have found their way into the modular lounge formed by the various elements. A cube, which has already made its debut, is the 'guest room', a collage of painted dwelling space and genuine products that the student recently presented on an international tour. The result is small spaces for great chilling out!

Areas for relaxing and communicating

Reading Lounge and Play Area for Design
Visitors will find design of the highest standard not only at the exhibition stands of Tendence Lifestyle: from this year, the new Reading Lounge in Hall 6.1 will hold a stock of home and design magazines for reading and pleasure. The modern lounge is part of a design concept by Veit Streitenberger, within the framework of which the Frankfurt-based designer invites visitors to give way to their play instinct or to satisfy their need to communicate or obtain information. Thus, around a large board, which forms the centrepiece of the area, he has arranged several attractive reading islands and the Designers' Playground, which form a trail with unusual trend games, such as indoor mini golf, door-frame table tennis and water table soccer. Also part of the communicative play area is the micro-architecture of Kassel Art Academy, in which visitors seeking peace and quiet can take refuge for a while.

Gastronomic Highlights

Matterhorn Lodge

Hall 4.2 E51 / Hall 4.0 D51
High peaks, fresh air, après ski – for many people, holidays in the mountains mean the best in relaxation. Hence, it was only a question of time before "all the trappings of Alpine life" found their way into the fashion and interior-design scene. At Tendence Lifestyle, designer Martin Metz has interpreted traditional themes, such as mountain huts, Alpine style and backpacking, for the Trend Café in Hall 4.2 and taken them into the modern world. To this end, it has carefully re¬juvenated them and transferred them colourfully, boldly and surprisingly easily into the 21st century. Thus, his Matterhorn Lodge will be a welcome port of call for weary fair hikers who can relax over a tasty snack in a stimulating environment.
