Tendence 2019: Consumer goods trade fair re-imagined

Consumers are seeking information and purchasing goods in new ways. More than ever, retailers are being challenged to rethink old ideas and develop new strategies. Methods for implementing these strategies and attracting customers – as well as the latest trends for the coming seasons – will all be featured at Tendence, the Frankfurt consumer goods trade fair, from 29 June to 1 July 2019.

Good news for retailers: consumption in Germany remains stable. However, as a result of digitisation, consumer demands on high street retailers are also growing. This was highlighted in a recent study conducted by IFH Cologne and commissioned by Messe Frankfurt. Customers primarily focus on convenience, service and experience when shopping in the real world. According to the study, consumers are attracted to retailers who offer a broad range of products, an online presence, a welcoming atmosphere and personal advice. These changes in the ways people seek information and purchase goods are also affecting consumer goods trade fairs – increasingly transforming them from mere ordering platforms into information and networking events. Many orders are now being placed only after the event. More than ever, fairs are becoming places to meet in person, build trust for long-term partnerships and experience products with all the senses.

To reflect these trends, Tendence 2019 has been re-imagined with a new look. From 29 June to 1 July, it will offer the perfect preparation for retailers seeking a successful future. “With its new structure, Tendence is targeting changes in consumer behaviour in the consumer goods market and proving itself a reliable partner to the retail sector,” says Stephan Kurzawski, Board of Management, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH. One key innovation at this year's event is the Style City in Hall 8.0. Created as a city with various districts and themed areas, its design targets consumer lifestyle worlds as well as the ongoing trend of the concept store.

From Saturday to Monday, a total of 603[1] exhibitors from 37 countries – in the four halls 8.0, 9.0, 11.0 and 12.0 – will take the opportunity to persuade and inspire visitors and retailers with innovative products and trends for the coming seasons at Tendence 2019. Alongside trends for the coming autumn and winter, many exhibitors are already previewing the Spring/Summer 2020 season. Most exhibitors travelling to Germany come from China, the Netherlands, Denmark, Vietnam, Poland, India, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. The level of internationality among exhibitors thus remains above 40 percent.

The varied complementary programme provides the perfect accompaniment to exhibitors’ product presentations. All three days of the fair will offer a wealth of inspiration and new perspectives through events such as the Tendence Academy, the Talents promotional programme, the Village and much more. On the Saturday of the fair, Tendence is also proud to host the final of this year's Frankfurt Style Award, the international young talent competition for fashion and design. Another tip: visitors to Gardiente, the Trade Fair for Garden Living, and Cosmetica, the Cosmetics Trade Fair – which run in parallel to Tendence – can visit Tendence free-of-charge with their respective tickets. Conversely, this offer also applies to visitors to Tendence. A shuttle bus will run between the Messe Frankfurt exhibition grounds and the Gardiente site in Wallau every half hour from 08.30 - 18:00 on the Sunday and Monday of the trade fair. Cosmetica will take place just a few minutes’ walk from Tendence in Hall 3.

Ready for the digital future

At Tendence 2019, Messe Frankfurt will be launching two new online platforms – once again emphasising its future-oriented approach to digitisation. One of these platforms is the international B2B marketplace Nextrade. This is a new unified digital ordering and data management system for suppliers and retailers in the consumer goods industry. Nextrade extends the trade fair and allows orders to be placed at any time of day or night, 365 days a year. For the first time, Messe Frankfurt will also present a new content platform at Tendence that offers a significant boost to retailers’ continuing market success. With a diverse range of products, this is firmly aimed at retailers of consumer goods and offers access to Messe Frankfurt’s international event portfolio in the consumer goods market at a glance. Both platforms will be presented in detail during Tendence at Stand D10 in Hall 8.0 and can be tried live.

Tendence 2019 will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2019.
